The city Corporation declared KK Salai and adjoining streets as containment area on Tuesday, after which its officials along with city police closed all the shops on the stretch. It would remain as a containment area for the next 14 days, officials said.

Division 138 falls under the Kodambakkam zone of the Corporation, which already has 1,867 COVID-19 cases. Corporation Commissioner G Prakash had said that the periphery of the large cluster would be sealed and police personnel would be deployed to stop people from going in or coming in. The civic body has already started implementing the large cluster containment in division 173 in Adyar zone, and divisions 114 and 115 in Teynampet zone on a trial basis.

The civic body has also requested the Greater Chennai Police to provide young police personnel to strictly monitor the borders of the clusters.
