The total number of police personnel who contracted the virus in the city has crossed 370 while more than 60 per cent of them were discharged from hospitals in a phased manner over a period of time.
The Additional Commissioner, who joined duty on Monday, was hospitalised for treatment on May 11. “I got many calls from senior officials from police and other departments, enquiring about my health and instilling strength and confidence in me,” he said on Monday after being received by city police chief AK Viswanathan at Chennai police commissioner’s office. “Apart from the Additional Commissioner, 50 others are also joining duty after being discharged following corona treatment. We will continue to serve people to help them fight corona,” Viswanathan said.
