Rajeshwari was bed-ridden for some time, said officials, who added that Vikranth had worked with a software firm. Vikranth did not step out of the apartment on Railway feeder road for the last couple of days. When a foul smell began emanating from the house, neighbours grew suspicious and alerted the police.
A team from Mambalam police broke open the door to find the decomposed bodies of the mother and son in the bed. The bodies were taken to Omandurar Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
The police said that fellow residents of the apartment do not know much about the mother-son duo except that Rajeshwari had been ill for a while. Her daughter is said to be living in the US and police are trying to get in touch with her.
Bloated body of tuition teacher found in Mandaveli
In another such incident, the bloated body of a 66-year-old man was found at the rented house in Mandaveli on Friday. The deceased, Madhavan, was unmarried, and used to take tuition classes for school and college students.
As he did not call since May 26, his sister Rajalakshmi who lives in Chengalpattu sent her son Venkat to Mandaveli to check on him. Venkat found the door locked from inside, and sensed a foul odour. He immediately alerted the Abiramapuram police. When they broke opened the door and went inside, the police found Madhavan’s decomposed body near a toppled chair. There was a bleeding injury in the back of his head.
Officials said they suspect that the injury could have been from the fall from the chair and are awaiting the autopsy report from Government Royapettah Hospital to ascertain the cause of death.
A similar case was reported in Tiruvallur. The deceased was identified as Devaraj (65) of Manavala Nagar. As Devaraj’s phone remained switched off, his son Selvakumar (33) reached his house and found him dead. The Manavala Nagar police have registered a case and are investigating.
