The number of burglaries reported in the city continues to be on the rise, with two such crimes being reported in Koyambedu and Tirumangalam on Monday.

R Manivannan of Sathyasai Nagar in Tirumangalam, who runs a photo studio in the front portion of his house, woke up to a noise around 11.30 pm on Sunday. When he went to inspect, he was shocked to find a group of masked men trying to break open the shutter.

On noticing Manivannan, the gang hurled stones at him, and then on his mother and son who came for his rescue, before fleeing with a DSLR camera worth Rs 47,000 and Manivannan’s mobile phone. Based on his complaint, the Tirumangalam police registered a case and have launched a hunt for the suspects.

In a similar crime, unidentified persons broke open a mobile phone service centre at the vegetable market in Koyambedu and escaped with two sound systems and a number of used phones.

N Mohammed Saleem (47) of Nerkundram, who kept the shop shut since May 6 after the market was shifted to Tirumazhisai, visited the shop on Monday morning to find it broken open and valuables stolen. Based on his complaint, the Koyambedu police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
