    Three killed in road accidents

    Three people died in different road accidents in Kancheepuram district on Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Tamilselvi (55), a staff at the Kancheepuram municipality office and a resident of Old Washermenpet, Manikkam (45), a lorry driver from Tiruvanamalai, and Thangarani (36) from Sunguvachatiram.

    In the first incident, Tamilselvi was travelling on a scooter with her colleague Subulakshmi when the accident happened. When they were nearing Oragadam, the bike skidded. Tamilselvi who suffered severe head injuries was rushed to a private hospital in Vadapalani, where she died without responding to treatments. The Oragadam police have registered a case.

    In the second incident, a container lorry was on its way to Bangalore from Chennai. Near Sriperumbudur Tollgate, the lorry driver, Manikkam, noticed something was hitting the rear of the lorry. He opened the door of the running vehicle and looked outside to check. But he lost grip and fell on the road. He was run over by the same vehicle. The Sriperumbudur police have registered a case.

    In the last incident, Thangarani from Sunguvachatiram was travelling on a two-wheeler with her husband Antony on the Mambakkam road. The police said Prasanth (24), who was speeding on another bike, rammed their two-wheeler. Thangarani died on the spot while others suffered severe injuries. Prasanth and Antony were admitted to the Sriperumbudur government hospital. The Sriperumbudur police have registered a case and are inquiring.
