After the Koyambedu market was closed, the Corporation had sent more than 250 workers hailing from other districts to relief centres in four locations in the city, though several others managed to flee carrying the virus to their districts.

According to a Corporation official, 108 workers were moved to a community centre in Tirumangalam. “Samples were taken from the workers for testing. The majority tested negative and were sent to their homes. Only 25 workers were staying there before the 10 workers tested positive. Remaining workers will be sent home once their test results show negative,” the official said.

Apart from them, about five workers staying in a relief centre in T Nagar have also been tested positive, officials said.

On Thursday, a market supervisor attached to CMDA was confirmed positive. The Corporation officials have sent the supervisor to hospital and are tracing his contacts.

Meanwhile, two assistant revenue officers attached to Royapuram zone, one of the most affected zones in the city, have been admitted to a government hospital after they tested positive. “They do not have any symptoms, but underwent testing because they worked in the vulnerable areas. They were coordinating relief centres and rescue of stranded persons,” an official said.

Already a tax collector in Anna Nagar zone and a license surveyor in Teynampet zone had tested positive.

While the State government is taking measures to send the migrant workers and stranded passengers to their native states, the Corporation has sent back more than 210 stranded persons from other districts, who were accommodated at relief centres. “The stranded persons were sent by buses,” an official said.
