Officials discuss ways to ease curbs from today
J Radhakrishan, nodal officer for Greater Chennai Corporation to coordinate COVID-related issues, held a meeting with City Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan and Corporation Commissioner G Prakash to discuss ways to implement the relaxation of lockdown from Monday and the possibilities of sending the guest workers to their respective states.
A senior official said the shops mentioned in the corresponding government order (GO) will be allowed to open and the roles of Corporation staff and police personnel implementing the same were discussed in the meeting.
“Gathering of more than five persons at a place will be discouraged and people should maintain social distancing for their own safety,” said the official.
Also, regarding the migrant labourers, the two additional commissioners who were also part of the meeting instructed the joint commissioners to prepare a statewise list of guest workers in their jurisdiction and their willingness to either to stay or leave.
The list would be submitted to the Revenue department who will decide on their travel arrangements.
A Deputy Commissioner told DT Next that some of the workers involved in construction have expressed their interest to stay back since the government has announced the resumption of construction activities with limited strength with the lodging facility at the site itself.
Meanwhile, inspectors addressed residents in their jurisdiction through Public Addressing System (PAS) to wear masks and maintain social distancing while visiting shops.
“People have to take care of themselves as that is the only way to keep the virus at bay,” said inspector S Sanakaranayaran of Porur-SRMC police station.
