Corporation seals saloon in Tiruvottiyur
The Greater Chennai Corporation had sealed a saloon in Tiruvottiyur for violating lockdown norms, on Sunday. According to sources, the shop owner violated the rules and opened the shop.

“Based on information, we visited the spot and sealed the shop located on Manickam Nagar Main Road,” an official said.
As per the government orders, saloons are not permitted to function. A few days ago, the civic body had sealed a saloon near Koyambedu for similar reason. Later, the shop owner was confirmed positive for COVID-19. Some of his customers who visited the shop were also tested positive.
The official added that shops violating lockdown norms would be closed down, and would be allowed to reopen after three months.
The civic body has so far sealed around 350 grocery and vegetable shops among others. “Most of the shops were found functioning after the permitted time, and also failed to follow social distancing norms.
Officials from the Corporation’s revenue department have been given powers to act against such shops. Apart from this, zonal flying squads have also been formed,” the official added.
The total fine collected across the State from lockdown violators is nearing Rs 4 crore and the fine collected till 9 am on Sunday stood at Rs 3,90,23,419.
The total number of violations reported in Tamil Nadu so far is 3,76,059 and as many as 3,97,886 persons have been booked. So far, 3,34,438 vehicles have been seized for violations.
In Chennai, city police have booked 489 cases and seized 318 vehicles for violating lockdown restrictions. City traffic police, meanwhile, seized 589 vehicles for violating various traffic rules.
