A 47-year-old car driver died of cardiac arrest when he was on way to the Collectorate here after picking up the tahsildar near Tambaram.

The deceased, Sandeep, a resident of Ashok Nagar, was working as a driver in the Collectorate. On Monday morning, Sandeep took the car and went to pick up tahsildar Ramkumar from his house in Madambakkam.

Around 9.30 am, when the car was about to make a turn on Rajakeelpakkam main road, Sandeep suffered severe chest pain and was unable to control the vehicle. He, however, managed to stop it by hitting on a transformer nearby.

Police said tahsildar Ramkumar escaped without any injuries while Sandeep, who was rushed to the Chromepet government hospital, was declared brought dead. The transformer which got damaged in the accident was repaired by the EB staff. Selaiyur police registered a case.
