    On Sunday, the Crime Against Women and Children unit in Chennai sprung into action after it received an SOS call from a man in Mumbai who claimed that his daughter’s local guardian in the city was torturing her.

    The woman, in her mid-20s, had been staying in an accomodation arranged by one R Agarwal for nearly a year and the complainant said her torture started after the lockdown began. “He used to help her out if she needed anything. Unfortunately since lockdown he has been physically assaulting my daughter and I recently came to know of it. Yesterday at 2 am he hit her on the face, injured her fingers stood on her feet. Today he is back. I am at a loss please help me out...,” the father’s message read.

    When contacted, ADGP M Ravi, heading the Unit, said that All Women Police Station sleuths are tracking the man. He also noted that there was no attempt of sexual assault by the man. “He simply beats and tortures her,” a CWC unit officer noted.

    In a late night development, Ravi said that All Women Police Station sleuths had tracked and secured the man who had been torturing the woman. The victim has been taken to the one-stop center run by department of social welfare in Anna Nagar and is being counselled. Senior police officers also reiterated apart from 100, people can also call help line number 1091 and 1098 for assistance.
