After hospital workers at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) tested positive for COVID recently, the postgraduate students and interns were asked to quarantine themselves from Friday.

“They have been asked to go on self-quarantine after a worker tested positive on Friday. The CRRI hostels and PG hostels were shut for three days though the interns resumed duty on Monday.

Also, the hospital is yet to take samples from all the PG students and interns for COVID-19 test,” said a medico at Madras Medical College.

Officials clarified that patients are not being diverted to other hospitals and that they are being treated at RGGGH. Almost one-third of the doctors are on duty at the hospital, an official said.

“We have not given them duty for CRRI at COVID-19 wards or COVID outpatient clinic but have posted them at general wards. We have also tested samples of nearly 100 medicos at MMC. All the samples tested negative,” said Dr K Narayana Swami, Medical Superintendent, RGGGH.

Narayana Swami further said that RGGGH will also ensure that each building in the hospital is disinfected before the quarantine ends.
