However, it is unclear if the man contracted the virus before or after he was admitted to the hospital.

According to the police, the 67-year-old was admitted to RGGGH on April 14 evening after he fell off the terrace of his house in an inebriated state. He was admitted to the hospital with a serious head injury and had been under treatment.

The Medical team, however, decided to do a COVID-19 test on the patient and he was tested positive for the virus on April 22. The police said that the man died on Friday and his death could have been because of head injuries.

The possibility of him contracting the virus after getting admitted to the hospital cannot be ruled out, noted the official.

In another incident of possible infection from the hospital, the police noted that a 46-year-old cancer patient from Anna Nagar East, who underwent surgery in RGGGH and was shifted to Adyar Cancer institute on 13 April, was later tested COVID-19 positive on April 22. Following this, he was taken back to RGGGH for COVID-19 treatment. As many as 19 people, including his family members who were in contact with him, were quarantined, said the police.
