The medicos had earlier written to the Dean that they would refrain from work over poor quarantine arrangements. Students had also blamed inadequate facilities for medicos getting infected.

Stating that many resident doctors have already been affected, the medicos had stated that they would not join duty on Wednesday. However, hospital authorities later arranged for hotels in Egmore for resident doctors at RGGGH to be quarantined. The students had requested them as per ICMR recommendations.

The students later joined duty, but a few doctors were still not satisfied. “While on duty in normal wards, we are staying in hostels but we are also being shifted to other buildings when we are on duty. During quarantine, at the Egmore hotel, the management refused to give us food saying the chef was absent. The truth is everyone is scared to come near a doctor. We are now being shifted to another hotel,” said a doctor.
