Four held for brewing arrack
Four men, who tried to make and sell arrack to make a quick buck at a time when the liquors shops across the State are closed, were chased and caught by the Chengalpattu police on Friday.

After receiving a tip-off that a group of men were preparing arrack in a coconut grove in Naduverapattu near Manimangalam, a team of officials from Manimangalam station went to the spot for a surprise check. They found the group were brewing arrack.
Spotting the police officials, the group took to their heels and tried to escape from the spot. However, the police personnel chased and caught them before long.
The arrested persons were identified as Madivanan (28), Naresh Kumar (25), Mahendran (29) and Karthick (32), all hailing from the same locality. Official sources said they have been staying at the farm for a week, and were preparing and selling the arrack.
The team found the equipment and materials they used to make alcohol, and also seized 180 litres of arrack that had already been distilled. They are conducting enquires with the security guard of the coconut grove.
