MTC uses shutdown for maintenance work
With the 21-day lockdown bringing to halt all the public transportation, MTC on Tuesday said it has taken up the maintenance of over 3,000 buses parked at 33 depots across the city.

Apart from the daily cleaning of the buses and offices with disinfectants, the technical staff were engaged in the maintenance of the buses, said MTC managing director K Ganesan in a release.
After halting the bus services in the city on March 24 evening for the lockdown, the MTC started to operating over 200 buses in the city and suburbs for commuting the essential service workers including health workers, government department, TNEB and Metro Water from March 25.
“All the buses meant for the essential services are being operated only after being disinfected and certified by the officials concerned. The bus drivers and conductors are also provided with masks and sanitisers,” he said, adding all the other buses stationed at the depots were also being sanitised with disinfectants daily.
He said the buses parked at the depot are being checked for the engine oil level, radiator coolant level, air leak, tyre and electrical wirings on a daily basis by the technical staff. “The maintenance works are undertaken under the supervision of the general manager, deputy manager and branch manager,” he said.
