Cop dies as car topples, one critical
A 29-year-old police constable died on the spot another head constable suffered grievous injuries after their car dived off road in a bit to avoid hitting a stray dog in Kancheepuram on Saturday night.

The deceased Durairaj, a Grade 2 constable of Greater Chennai Police, and Head Constable Sunny Lloyed of Prohibition Enforcement Wing in Tiruvannamalai district, were returning to the city from Vandavasi in the latter’s car. Around 8.30 pm, when they were near Sunguvarchathiram on Chennai-Bengaluru highway, Sunny Lloyed who was behind the wheel lost control over the vehicle as a dog crossed the road.
The car ran amok and topped off the road. Durairaj who was seated in the front seat was thrown off, while Sunny Lloyed, who had seat belt on, also suffered injuries. 108 ambulance reached the spot and confirmed Durairaj was dead. His body was sent to Sriperumpudur government hospital for post-mortem. Sunny Lloyed was shifted to private hospital in Chennai after first-aid.
