According to Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash, the stickers would be pasted for alerting others and also to ensure social distancing. “Stickers will be pasted at all the houses where people under home quarantine are residing,” he said.

As of now, around 3,000 homes are under quarantine watch within the Chennai Corporation limits.

Apart from pasting stickers, the civic body is also disinfecting the surroundings of such buildings while the police are preventing other residents from going near them.

Local officials at many parts of the country have been doing similar measure to ensure that people stayed clear of the homes where the persons under quarantine are kept. However, it has also led to criticisms by many healthcare activists, pointing out that those with suspected symptoms could face stigma.

Meanwhile, Harsha Koda secretary of Sabari Terrace, an apartment complex in Sholinganallur, and coordinator of Federation of OMR Resident Associations (FOMRRA), urged the State government to ensure contactless and cashless transactions at toll plazas on Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) to mitigate the risk of coronavirus transmission.

“The residents of OMR have no choice but to interact with the toll booth staff on a daily basis,” he said.
