World record for ‘max weight loss in a group’ set in Chennai
On Sunday morning, 100 people gathered together to set a world record on “maximum weight loss in a group” with the London-based Tifa World Records at the ICF Basketball Court in Konnur.

For three hours, 100 people participated in 46 high-intensity training exercises, extended over three hours, with the objective of each person burning 100 grams to achieve a target of losing 10,000 grams in total. According to the judges, some people even lost up to two kilograms.
“We focused on speed-intensive training as higher speeds helps burn fat faster. This kind of training helps achieve results in a short time, and has the added benefits of improving stamina and immunity,” said Paramaguru, founder of Paramaguru Fitness, who organised the event.
Given the threat of COVID-19, participants took part in the event with masks and were frequently asked to use hand sanitiser throughout the event.
“I joined the course after my sister-in-law lost around nine kilograms in two months. This is a different kind of training without relying on machines, and so can be done at home too,” said V Mithesh, a 31-year-old participant.
The training regimen is tailored for sportspeople, said Paramaguru, a former handball player himself. One of his students, Ashwin Hegde, explained how the fitness regimen helped him get back into shape after he quit sports. “I put on a lot of weight afterwards, and I needed to lose it to stay in shape. As most of the exercises were similar, it was easy to pick up,” he said.
The chief guest of the event was Deepan Chakkravarthy, a chess grandmaster. “It is vital that the current generation engage themselves in some fitness and workouts. This emphasis will help them lead healthier lives,” he said.
