The arrested duo was identified as M Kottaisamy (47) from MGR Nagar in Trisoolam and K Suresh, 43 of Jamin Pallavaram.

The two were nabbed by the Idol Wing cops when they were travelling on a bike from Trisoolam to GST Road with the intention of selling it.

“When asked to open the bag, Kottaisamy, who was riding pillion and carrying the bag, hesitated to do it initially,” said the police. “But later he took out the one-foot-tall idol of Krishna which has its right hand missing.”

During the questioning, Suresh told the sleuths that they were taking the idol to sell it.

Based on suspicion that the particular idol could have been stolen from a temple, the two were arrested. The idol and two-wheeler on which they were travelling were also seized by the Idol Wing police team.

Police are further probing the case to know from where the idol was stolen and also why its right hand was removed. Police are also trying to locate the missing hand of the idol.
