Wannabe ‘call boy’ enlists on app to make a quick buck, finds himself duped
There are a number of forums available online where one can post their grievances in the last resort of getting heard if all other options for redressal do not yield the desired result. However, an unusual complaint posted on one such forum was that of a youngster who claimed that he was cheated after applying for the job of a gigolo or ‘call boy’.
Chennai
According to a complaint by the youth who identified himself as Johny Krish, he claimed that a fake escort agency cheated him of Rs 2,000 after he applied to be a male escort. In his complaint, Johny alleged that he registered his services via the mobile phone application after which a male escort agency asked him to pay a fee which would ensure that he would get customers regularly. The agency also allegedly sent him pictures of female ‘clients’ and told him he could choose his partner. However, after he paid the money through an e-wallet and selected one of the girls from photos that was sent to him on WhatsApp, his phone number was blocked. The potential gigolo took his complaint online and shared screenshots of the conversation he had with his so-called agent in the forum.
While this sort of complaint may seem unusual, it was observed that the forum revealed has a dedicated page to report such ‘call boy’ complaints, and there were at least 91 complaints. Interestingly, five complains were even reported as resolved.
According to a police inspector, such complaints don’t reach them as gigolos don’t operate through any networks they are familiar with, but he agreed that online forums could help raise awareness about such frauds who prey on misguided youngsters.
