According to a Corporation official, the Southern Railway had a plan to construct pedestrian subway at the railway level crossing (LC-14) on Pachaiyamman Koil Street.

A few days ago, the Corporation conducted an interdepartmental coordination meeting to discuss the project, in which the Southern Railway proposed FOB. “The Southern Railway could not start the construction of the subway as they have to stop train traffic. Due to this, they have decided to build the foot-over bridge instead of a subway,” a Corporation official said.

The official added that the Railway officials had requested the civic body for permission to construct an FOB and to drop subway plan.

“However, we are yet to take a decision pertaining to the modification in the plan,” the official said.

In 2017, the Southern Railway had closed the level crossing as a part of the project to eliminate level crossings in the city by constructing subways and bridges.

When asked the official about the vehicle movement on Pachaiyamman Koil Street that connects Guindy and Alandur, he said that there was a rail-over bridge nearby which the residents are using.
