“Few days ago, we spotted several roadside shops in Tiruvallur that were slaughtering cows and calves. We went to the spot early on Sunday morning to check. It was a horrific sight to see that nearly 10 calves and cows lying dead in a pool of blood. There were even pregnant cows, too,” claimed M Vignesh, an activist. A complaint has been filed at the nearby police station and 10 persons from the slaughterhouse were arrested.

“This is the second incident in Tiruvallur. In February, we had rescued two calves and two cows, including a pregnant cow. After getting the information, we got help from the Blue Cross of India, which sent a vehicle to take the cows. We heard that there are many slaughterhouses in the locality. We are yet to identify the places, so are trying to look for them with the help of other rescuers,” said Daniel K, another activist.

The activist also claimed that there are cats and camels at the slaughterhouses in Tiruvallur, adding that they were gathering proofs for this to file a complaint. “Cats are caught by Narikkuravas and are killed for meat. Its meat is being used in biriyani. We are yet to spot the places,” claimed Vignesh.
