Actor's son held for raping college girl after spiking her drinks

The accused Vijay Harish of Anna Nagar is the son of veteran actor Sooriyakanth who is also a star speaker of AIADMK, said police. He is also acting in an upcoming film titled 'Naangalum Nallavangadhan’ (We are good people too)'.

The victim is a 20-year-old woman from North Chennai and second-year student of a private college in the city.

Police said that Vijay Harish met the girl through a common friend last year and developed a relationship. "On January 2, he took her to an apartment in Virugambakkam offered her pomegranate juice. The girl who drank it became unconscious and using the oppotunity, Vijay Harish raped her apart from film her in an obscene manner," said police quoting the victim's statement.

He later started threatening her with the photos and allegedly demanded she cooperates whenever he calls her, failing which he would upload the material online to humiliate her.

Shocked victim submitted a petition to Deputy Commissioner H Jayalakshmi (IUCAW) recently after which the Tiruvottiyur all-women police registered a case as per her instructions. After investigation, Vijay Harish was picked up from his house on Tuesday night. Booked under Sections 328 (Causing hurt by means of poison), 343 (Wrongful confinement), 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 354C (voyeurism), 376 (rape), 506(i) (criminal intimidation) of IPC, Vijay Harish was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
