TNFRS officials said the fire was put off around 3 pm on Sunday, and the barrels at the warehouse were removed with the help of earthmovers to check the possibility of a fire breaking out again. A petrol bunk located next to godown has been shut until further orders and fire tenders have been stationed next to it. At least 50 fire and rescue personnel and 10 fire tenders have been posted there as a precautionary step.
Meanwhile, Chennai Collector R Seethalakshmi visited the spot and conducted inquiries with its owner on Sunday. Speaking to the media, the Collector said she has sought details for the safety measures undertaken at the warehouse by the owner, Ranjith, the staff details and whether they have been insured. The details and nature of the chemicals kept at the godown and the licence of the warehouse have also been sought.
