The government doctors’ associations welcomed the Madras High Court’s order quashing the transfer of doctors who participated in the strike.
Chennai
The members of Federation of Government Doctors Association (FOGDA), along with more than 15,000 doctors associated with several other governments doctors’ associations, had gone on an indefinite strike in October seeking acceptance of their long pending demands, including pay hike, promotions and reservations forservice doctors.
They had demanded implementation of Dynamic Assured Career Progression with Pay Band 4 for doctors who have served for more than 13 years, maintenance of post of doctors based on patient load, 50 per cent service quota in PG admissions and appointment of service doctors through counselling.
“The protest was temporarily withdrawn after being assured by the Health Minister that the demands would be considered. The government promised to take no disciplinary action against the protesters. However, more than 120 doctors were transferred. Notices were sent to many doctors seeking explanation as to why they should not be fired,” said Dr G Ravindranath, secretary, Doctors Association for SocialEquality.
“The transfer orders affected the doctors and their families,” he added.
The associations demanded that State government should immediately cancel these transfer orders, and urged government to give up all acts of revenge on the grounds of goodwill, and create a peaceful environment for the doctors in the State.
