The complainant, Gayatri Sai, an actor, told this newspaper that she started receiving calls after a spar with the pizza delivery boy.

The police said that the case is being probed by the Crime Against Women & Children unit and the accused has been secured and being questioned.

“On February 9, we ordered pizza from a prominent restaurant chain. But the delivery boy repeatedly called for direction despite we live very close to the restaurant,” Gayatri, a resident of Teynampet, said.

She started receiving obscene calls from the next day and lodged a complaint. The police tracked the callers, including the pizza delivery agent. “I understood the hand of the delivery boy only after the police secured him,” Gayatri recalled.

The police believe that the accused was trying settling scores with the complainant after she had an argument with him. It is possible he was under the influence of alcohol.

“I decided to take this up because no other woman should face such harassment. It would have been worse if my daughter used her number to order the pizza,” Gayatri noted. She added that senior police officials, including the city police commissioner, were in touch with her.

A statement from the restaurant, Jubilant FoodWorks Limited, which owns the franchise rights for Domino’s in India, said that they were shocked to hear about incident. “As soon as we were informed, we initiated the process to terminate the delivery boy. As a responsible corporate house, we have zero tolerance for such behaviour and strongly condemn it,” the company said ina press release.
