    High-level MHRD team to inspect govt schools in 3 districts

    A high-level team, led by the joint secretary and Economic Adviser from the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), will be touring Tamil Nadu to inspect various government schools in three districts.

    The MHRD authorities is scheduled to meet top officials of the School Education Department and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan wing authorities to review various steps taken by the State government in the education sector, including the implementation of Centre’s new education policy.


    The three-day visit of MHRD team, headed by MHRD Economic Adviser R Kumar is significant as the Tamil Nadu government had recently scrapped board exams for Classes 5 and 8, which was against the proposed new education policy.


    A senior official from the School Education Department said that on the first day, the team would visit schools in Vellore and Krishnagiri districts.


    “The inspection will be carried out at various block levels before moving to other government schools in Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts,” he said.


    The official added that on the final day, the MHRD team would meet School Education Secretary, School Education Commissioner and directors of School, Elementary, and Matriculation.


    “The discussions will be based on the functioning of various centrally sponsored school projects and its progress,” he said. Talks would also focus on the implementation of the Centre’s new education policy, which will be soon launched, the official added.


    During the meeting, the authorities is expected to convince the MHRD team about the difficulties in conducting board exams for Classes 5 and 8 in the State.


    “The officials will also submit a detailed report in this regard,” he said adding that the state will also prevail upon the MHRD to release the pending funds, which was meant for various students’ welfare schemes.
