The Sleuths of Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB) CID busted a drug racket and arrested a trio in possession of MDMA (ecstasy) tablets, LSD stamps, methamphetamine (Ice) and ganja. The peddlers, all youth, used to get the drug from Goa and Puducherry through courier, and even offered discount to buyers who placed bigger orders.

The accused were identified as V Vasanth (20), R Nishanth Rayan (23) of Kolathur, and R Balachanhar (22) of Korattur. As many as 300 LSD stamps, 20 grams of methamphetamine, 2.5 kg of ganja and two bikes were seized from them.

NIB sources said that it was the culmination of a month-long operation after they came to know that a lot of college students from two particular institutions possessed drugs which are not easily available.

After managing to secure a buyer, the sleuths used him as a decoy and ordered MDMA and LSD stamps.

“We first ordered in small quantity and ordered again to check how much this gang could supply. To our shock, we came to know that bigger the order, more the rate cut offered,” said an officer.

One of the accused, Vasanthan, was secured on Friday night and based on his inputs, the other two accused were also arrested.

Officials said that at the time of custody, the accused’s phone kept getting calls and messages, mostly from college students, for drugs to celebrate Sivarathri.

Investigation revealed that they the trio became addicted to drugs during college days and later turned into suppliers.

“From Padi to Retteri, they supply drugs after orders are placed over phone. They received cash from some and got the money transferred to their bank accounts from regular customers. They have been doing it for the last two years,” said the officer.

The peddlers placed the orders through online and buy drug consignments from Goa and Puducherry through couriers addressed to fake addresses in the city.

The police said that the accused was trying to create a steady business by ferrying the narcotics stamps from Goa and sold them for Rs 2,000 per stamp.

The price of the stamp depends on the demand – it can go up to Rs 5,000 per stamp. LSD stamps are also easy to courier inside books from abroad without getting noticed, as it is difficult to browse through all book parcels arriving to the city from abroad, officials said.
