When the gang threatened Cary Stewart at knifepoint to rob him of valuables, his wife, who was on the first floor, sensed trouble and alerted the police.

The police noted that the incident happened in the wee hours of Tuesday when the victim – a music teacher at an international school in the city — was on the ground floor of the independent house at Vettuvankani. Four men allegedly entered the premises, tied Stewart to a chair and threatened him at knifepoint.

His wife Diana, who noticed it from the first floor, locked herself in a room and alerted the police control room. Immediately, a team of police personnel rushed to the spot but the gang had escaped by then as the couple’s neighbours gathered around the house after hearing the noises.

Though no valuables were lost, the Neelankarai police havereceived a written complaint from Stewart and registered an FIR.A hunt has been launched for the suspects with the help ofCCTV footage retrieved fromthe locality.

The police said that Stewart works as a music teacher at an international school in Taramani and the couple had been staying in the rented premises for the last few months. They suspect that the gang must have kept a watch on the couple for a while before indulging in the robbery bid. Stewart did not sustain any injuries in the incident, the police added.
