Maduranthagam villagers take to the streets seeking water
Hundreds of villagers protested in Maduranthagam on Saturday seeking the panchayat officials to ensure regular water supply.
Chennai
Residents of Kallalbiran Kullam village in Maduranthagam claimed that water supply has been cut off completely for the past two days. The village panchayat and Maduranthagam Block Development Office did not take any action even after the villagers approached them seeking redressal. Following that, they took to the streets to block GST Road to mark their protest. But the police intercepted the villagers, who were marching with empty cans towards GST Road, on Kallalbiran Main Road. As the police did not allow them to proceed further, the residents staged the protest on Kallalbiran Main Road itself.
The Maduranthagam BDO staff and village panchayat staff, who arrived at the spot, promised to repair all the pipelines and to supply water in two days. They also assured to send tanker water to the area till the water supply is resumed. The protesters dispersed only after that.
