A 13-year-old girl jumped from the first floor of her school building and suffered a fracture on Monday. She attempted suicide reportedly after a teacher scolded the class for not focusing on studies in Virugambakkam.
Chennai
The police said that the Class 8 student of Jaigopal Garodia Government Girls School, Virugambakkam, was the daughter of one Devaraj. “The teacher scolded the entire class but the girl got upset and jumped from the first floor of the school building,” an officer said.
She was rushed to a private hospital where she is said to be recovering well. However, no complaint has been registered in this regard. In another incident, an 18-year-old girl committed suicide in Chintadripet. The deceased, Kumudha, was a student of a private college in Guindy and she also worked part-time at an electrical company.
She lived with her mother Vimala (40) and a brother, a Class 4 student, on Gramaniya Street. Her father Manohar passed away a few years ago. On Monday afternoon, when her mother had stepped out to give lunch to her son at school, Kumudha hanged herself in the house. Vimala returned and found the door of the house locked and Kumudha did not respond to the calls. With the help of neighbours, the door was broken open. They found Kumudha hanging from the ceiling. The police arrived at the spot and sent the body to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem examination.
