    Cop among four more held in TNPSC scam

    The Tamil Nadu CBCID on Monday arrested four more people, including a policeman, in connection with the 2017 TNPSC Group 2A examination scam. With the latest arrests, the number reached nine on Monday. The CBCID had already arrested 16 persons in connection with the 2019 Group 4 examination scam.

    The case was registered after it came to light that 42 persons who took the examination in Rameswaram centre had scored high marks and joined various government departments.


    Officials said that Jayakumar from Chennai, the main agent, had been collecting cash ranging from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. He still remains untraceable.


    On Monday, CBCID investigators arrested M Muthukumar (35), a policeman from Tirunelveli. He had paid Rs 8 lakh to Jayakumar on behalf of his wife who appeared for the exam in 2017. Mahalakshmi had scored 276 and bagged 24th rank. Mahalakshmi has been working as an office assistant in Ezhilagam.


    Besides the policeman, the sleuths arrested P Vadivu, R Gnanasambandam and M Anandan.


    Vadivu (44), an assistant at Kancheepuram registrar office, had scored 271.5 marks and bagged rank 29. She had paid Rs 12.5 lakh.


    Gnanasambandam, who is an assistant at registration headquarters in Foreshore Estate, was ranked 54 and had paid Rs 15 lakh to the agent.


    Now working as an assistant in Red Hills registration office, M Anandan had paid Rs 13 lakh to bag 19th rank in the examination held in 2017.
