Now, take a familiar concept and expand it to a city-wide canvas, and this is what the team at Amazing Human Being hopes to do with their monthly Motta Maadi Santhippu.

Consisting of a group of locals focussing on self-growth and self-help, Amazing Human Being was founded two years ago by Sathishkumar Balakrishnan. “We want people to get together to start having a positive attitude and positive lifestyle. In this way, we can help come up with solutions to the problems that we have created,” he said.

This month’s Santhippu, which will be held on Sunday across ten locations in the city simultaneously, will focus on combating climate change. “Usually, we focus on individual issues and problems, and self-growth. Once people understand their thought processes, they can bring about a change in behaviour, which can add a value to the planet. Once you know yourself better, you can change yourself to contribute to the community,” he said.

Citing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, Balakrishnan said the need of the hour is for the community to band together and adapt behaviour to facilitate environmental conservation. “When many people get together to discuss an issue – whether it is something personal or a bigger like climate change – there are many solutions that are presented. Thus, people have a clarity on how to proceed,” he said, adding participating in such events also add an element of accountability, which promotes change in behaviour.

Through the various programmes planned, the team hopes to facilitate awareness and motivate change in the 200-odd participants. Images of receding shorelines, data on climate change, and expert talks will be held at the event.
