The residents of Old and New Washermanpet complain that for the past one week the chlorine level is higher than usual, and some are falling sick frequently by consuming the water.

“Nowadays, we are dependent on Metro Water, but from last Thursday the chlorine smell is stronger than usual. We are not able to consume the water even after boiling as the water gets thick. By consuming the water few residents are suffering from stomach-ache. We have also asked the person who supplies the water to check the chlorine level, but in vain,” said, Murali KV, a resident of Poondithangamal Street, Old Washermanpet.

“We are facing the issue for more than a week; we cannot use groundwater as it tastes salty and brown in colour. Two children have been hospitalised. We are tired of complaining to Zone Corporation and metro water officials,” said Vigneshwaran K, a resident of Thiruvalluvar Nagar, New Washermanpet.

Last month, there was a similar issue faced by the residents of Tondiarpet, after complaining, the CMWSSB brought it under control within two days.

When contacted CMWSSB official, S Ezhumalai said, “We have received similar complaints from the locality for a month, and it is being checked immediately. We ensure to check the chlorine level the next day before supplying.”
