Highways dept asks Tangedco to shift overhead power line
The State Highways department which has taken up the construction of railway overbridge at Perungalathur to ease traffic on the GST Road has asked the Tangedco to convert its overhead 11kv power lines into underground to facilitate the works.
Chennai
The overhead power line would be converted into an underground connection to facilitate the construction of the overbridge instead of the railway level crossing between Tambaram and Vandalur railway stations near Perungalathur.
An existing 11KV high tension and low tension overhead lines would be converted into underground on Veeragahavan Street, Sannathi Street, Bharathi Street and Indira Gandhi Road in New Perungalathur, an official of the Highways department said.
The works have been taken after Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami laid the foundation for the construction of overbridge at Perungalathur in November last year. The bridge will be constructed at a cost of Rs 206.83 crore. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone from the Secretariat on November 1.
As per the proposal, the overbridge’s main arm would start on Srinivasa Raghavan Street on the Perungalathur side, crossing over the railway line to the rotary on the GST Road where it has two arms to enter and exit on the Chennai-Chengalpattu and Chengalpattu-Chennai stretches. It lands at Eastern Bypass (Gandhi road). “The proposal consists of elliptical rotary with two arms on GST road, one arm on Srinivasa Ragavan Street and another arm on Eastern bypass (Gandhi Road) with the railway portion lies in Srinivasa Ragavan Street,” the official said.
