Bhuvanesh (23) of Karumariamman Koil Street in Tiruverkadu got married to his girlfriend on Monday, and the wedding reception was held the previous evening at a wedding hall in the locality. But little would he have anticipated that he would land in the police station the day after the wedding.

A history graduate from Pachaiyappa’s College, Bhuvanesh had invited seniors and juniors from the college to his wedding, who came to the ceremony with a cake and a few machetes to honour their friend in a unique way. They gave a machete to him to cut the cake and shot a video of the event.

The 29-second video shows the gang of friends surrounding the couple on the wedding stage and shouting slogans praising their college and bus route. Bhuvanesh’s wife, who seems to be clueless in the video, was is also seen holding the machete with him at the ceremony.

The fun and frolicking was over within hours after Bhuvanesh found the visual on news channels – the video, shared by his friends on social media without his knowledge, had gone viral by then. Soon enough, police reached his house and took him to the station. A few of his friends were also picked up for interrogation.

Investigation revealed that the man who brought the machete was Mani, Bhuvanesh’s junior in college. “He has switched off his phone and gone into hiding,” said police. Bhuvanesh, who is currently working at a private firm, is said to have been a bus ‘route thala’ during his college days andhas been booked for minor offences.

However, considering his future, the police made him sign a ‘peace bond’ promising not to indulge in any offences and let him off with a warning.

It may be recalled that a few law graduates were also warned for celebrating birthday by cutting the cake with machetes. This trend started after a video of gangster Binu Papachan celebrating his birthday in the same manner in February 2018.
