O for Organic: Kids get lessons in ‘healthy eating’
In a bid to introduce children to organic farming and raise awareness on produce adulteration and healthy eating habits, the Bay International School on ECR and Arya Dairy Farm held a workshop on organic farming on Sunday.
Chennai
Around 180 students from the school took part in the second edition of the Bay International Family Carnival, which was held on the school premises.
The students were coached on the basics of organic farming, and taught the benefits of organic produce, which included the benefits of native cow’s milk or A2 milk, by Arya Dairy Farms, which has 125 acres of land near Tindivanam.
“In the current commercial climate, people are buying adulterated products. By making children aware in what they consume, we are taking steps towards creating a more in-formed consumer base,” said G Mustafa Badsha, social entrepreneur and promoter of the event.
The chief guest for the event was the Dewan to the Prince of Arcot, Nawabzada Mohammed Asif Ali.
“In the next phase, we want the children to start a small garden for themselves in their homes. This would make them self-sustaining as well as ensure that they are consuming fresh and healthy produce at home,” said Badsha.
