178 students take part in Quizabled
The Spastic Society of Tamil Nadu, Taramani, organised Quizabled, a quiz for children with disability, on Saturday.
Chennai
The second edition of the quiz saw 178 children from over 29 special and inclusive schools in and around Chennai, Kancheepuram, Salem, Cuddalore, Tiruvottiyur, Chengalpattu and Tiruvannamalai take part.
“Quizzing is usually an activity that is only in the purview of the mainstream,” said LV Jayashree, director of the Spastic Society of Tamil Nadu. “While there are quiz clubs in most schools, many of the schools from the surrounding districts were surprised that there was a school particularly for children with disability and mistook that we approached the wrong school. It is time people recognised that quizzing is for everyone,” she said.
Participants were divided into groups based on their disability; intellectual disability, Cerebral Palsy and autism, visually impaired, and hearing impaired. The winners for each category respectively were Children’s Garden Higher Secondary School, National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities, St Louis School for the Deaf and the Blind and Little Flower Convent. According to quizmaster and co-founder of Catalyst Quiz Corp, Surya Narayanan, the questions were very difficult and based on from general knowledge to celebrity trivia.
