Man murders alcoholic brother, police probe other family members

His brother Giri Babu is a private firm employee and has been arrested by the police for the murder.

The police said that Giri Babu was not happy about Murali’s unemployment and addiction to alcohol. Murali had been demanding money from his brother and mother to buy liquor. He also used to come home drunk and create a ruckus. He also attempted suicide recently by slashing his hand and the police had registered a case. He took the extreme step after his family refused to entertain his demands for money to buy liquor.

In November last year, Murali married his girlfriend. But she left him recently because of his addiction to alcohol. After that, his dependence on alcohol increased even more. “On Thursday evening, Murali was found dead on the terrace with injuries. A blood-stained club was also found near Murugan’s body,” the police said.

After an initial round of inquiry, the police found that the family members were aware of the murder. During further investigation, the police zeroed in on Giri Babu and arrested him for murdering his brother.

“It is not clear if any other members of the family helpedhim to eliminate Murali,” the police noted.
