Pvt firm employee found dead, rape suspected

The deceased, D Kareena Priyadharshini, was a mechanical engineering graduate and was working at a private firm in Oragadam. The police said that the victim stayed in a rented accommodation at Arthananchery in Padappai with her colleague Ranjitha, also from Odisha.

On Tuesday morning, Ranjitha left to work around 6 am, while Kareena, who returned after the night shift, stayed home.

“Around 5 pm, when Ranjitha reached home, she found Kareena lying on the bed fully covered with a bedsheet. Ranjitha thought her roommate was not feeling well and tried to wake her up. As there was no response, she removed the bedsheet to find Kareena unconscious with injury marks. Soon she alerted the ambulance and the paramedics confirmed that the woman had died a few hours ago,” a police official said.

On information, the Manimangalam police, who arrived at the spot, retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem examination to Chengalpattu Government Hospital. The police noted injury marks and nail marks on the victim’s cheeks, neck, and throat.

Police sources said Kareena’s boyfriend Manish, who also works in the same firm, had not reported to work on Tuesday and have detained him along with a few other men for further inquiry.

The Kancheepuram police have formed three special teams to nab the murderers and the police suspect that people who were familiar to the girl might have committed the murder.
