2 held for snatching spree at Taramani
Two men who snatched mobile phones from at least three persons in Taramani police jurisdiction this month alone have been nabbed.

Three mobile phones and three two-wheelers were seized from the accused identified as S Vasanthakumar (20) alias Mayi of Okkiyam Thoraipakkam and R Purushothaman (22) of Tiruvanmiyur.
After the Taramani police received three phone snatching complaints, crime inspector Salairam Sakthivel and his team combed the CCTV footage and traced the suspects with the help of their bike registration number.
The inspector said that Vasanthakumar has cases pending against him. “He came out of prison only four months ago and stole a bike. Later he abandoned it and used his friends’ two-wheelers to target victims with Purushothaman,” the officer added.
The duo snatched a mobile phone worth Rs 10,000 from R Rakeshkumar (30) of Kandhanchavadi on January 12 near MGR Film City when he was walking back to office after lunch. Before that, K Murali of MGR Nagar at Taramani lost his phone to the duo on January 7 when he was on a walk on CSIR road. The duo was remanded in judicial custody.
Duo snatches phone from assistant director
Another bike-borne duo snatched a mobile phone from a 35-year-old man at Virugambakkam on Saturday night.
The victim, Manimaran of Vedachalam Street in Saligramam, is as an assistant director in the film industry.
He was walking on the Bhaskar Colony Third Street on Saturday night when two men on the bike followed him and snatched his mobile phone. Manimaran raised an alarm, but the duo managed to flee the spot.
Based on his complaint, the Virugambakkam police registered a case and a hunt has been launched for the suspects with the help of CCTV footage retrieved from the locality.
