Man tries to rape woman at knifepoint, held

The accused, N Immanuel (25) of Kodungaiyur, was booked under Section 294(b) (obscene language), 354 (assault with an intent to outrage a woman’s modesty), 385 (extortion), 436 (mischief by fire or any explosive substance), 447 (criminal trespass) and 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) of IPC.

The incident happened on Pongal night (Wednesday) when the woman was alone at her house. Immanuel entered the house and threatened the woman at knifepoint and tried to rape her.

However, since her husband, a lorry driver, returned home, Immanuel escaped from the house. “The woman’s husband chased Immanuel on a bike and secured from the bushes where he was hiding. But, Immanuel bit his hands and fled the spot,” the police said. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case and arrested Immanuel. He was remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
