Man sleeps with lit beedi, suffers burns

The injured was identified as K Babu (65), a daily wage labourer from Korukkupet. The police said that he dozed off keeping a lit beedi in his mouth, which fell on the seat and caught fire. The auto belongs to one P Veeramani of the same locality and he had parked it on Fourth Street at Tirunavukarasu Thottam in Korukkupet. AfterBabu cried for help with his shirt burning, the fire was put off and he was rushed to Government Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) hospital. Babu sustained burns on the neck, face, shoulder. The police said that he is out of danger. The autorickshaw was also damaged in the fire. The Tiruvottiyur police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
