Pongal exodus affects traffic at Perungalathur

Though officials had asked the private bus operators to Take the Outer Ring Road to reach their destinations and use a temporary bus stop at Kilambakkam to board passengers, the buses from Koyembedu began taking their regular route via Perungalathur after 10 pm on Monday. This created a bottleneck at Perungalathur and GST Road till early morning.

There was not enough police force to control the traffic. As the buses halted on GST Road to board passengers, free movement of other vehicles was blocked.

Auto drivers and other members of the public had to help police personnel on the spot to control the traffic till morning. Commuters said that the authorities should have planned the traffic better to avoid the traffic congestion.
