Drunk lawyers attack policeman

A police head constable, who went to inquire about a scuffle, was allegedly attacked by three drunk lawyers, at Adambakkam on Saturday night. The policeman’s finger was broken in the assault, said officials, adding that the three were arrested with the help of local public.

According to the police, Angamuthu, head constable working in Adambakkam police station, had gone to the Karikalan Street where was a ruckus happening near a Tasmac shop on Saturday. He went there as per the instruction from the control room.


Angamuthu tried to stop the trouble-makers near the liquor shop. But the three started arguing with the policeman. It soon turned into a heated exchange of words and later turned into a scuffle.


When Angamuthu tried to push them into the patrol vehicle, they attacked him. He suffered injury on his hand and ended up with a broken finger.


Hearing his cries, the public gathered and bundled the three into the vehicle. They were taken to the police station.


The police later identified the three as Balaji (32) ofRed Hills, Sakthivel (33) from East Tambaram and Maruthupandi (31) of Theni. During the inquiry, they claimed to be lawyers.They were arrested by the police and were later remanded in judicial custody.


Constable attacked with knife


Meanwhile at Gummidipoondi, a gang of four attacked a police constable with knife and fled the spot when the latter intervened as he found them attacking a labourer in the market on Saturday evening. Rajesh (29), who works at a flower shop, had an ongoing enmity with one Munusamy (34), a history-sheeter from the same locality against whom he had already lodged a complaint. On Saturday evening, Munusamy and three others attacked Rajesh with knives.


When Constable Ranjith (26) who was on patrol intervened, the attackers slashed his left shoulder and fled the spot. A special team has been formed to nab them.
