At present 37,500 government schools, 8,357 government aided schools and 12,918 private institutions are functioning across the State, teaching about 1.3 crore students. Currently, there are as many as 68 educational districts in the State and in each district, about 10 district education officers have been deployed. Each district has a minimum of 10 zonal officials depending on the size of the region.

A senior official from the Directorate of School Education told DT Next that orders have been issued for the District Educational Officers to ensure that the zonal officials have inspected a minimum of 20 schools per month and submit online report. “The zonal officers have been instructed that they should not inform the school management before an inspection,” he said adding, “This will get the clear picture of the educational activities in the schools.”

Stating that the duration of school inspection should be a minimum of 2 hours, the official said that the authorities concerned should also participate in all the government school functions by hoisting the flag and interacting with the students.

“They should also take a periodical report on the freebies distributed to the students,” he said adding, “They should also monitor whether the schools are conducting physical education classes and sports activities as per the schedule.”

“From this year onwards, all the District Educational Officers should prepare a comprehensive annual inspection report of all the government schools in their respective region and submit to the authorities concerned in the School Education Department,” he said.

The official said that it has also been decided to assign surprise inspection works in anganwadi centres where the officials would also check LKG and UKG classes.
