Data prove improved performance of NCB
The Narcotics Control Bureau, Chennai Zone, has improved its performance in the seizure of pseudoephedrine, methamphetamine, hashish oil, and hashish in 2019, said the latest data from the bureau. But the seizure of ganja, cocaine and alprazolam tablets has come down this year.

In 2019, 50 people were arrested by the NCB, Chennai, following seizures of various narcotics. The number was 36 people in 2018 and 23 in 2017.
There was a substantial increase in the seizure of pseudoephedrine in 2019 – 63.2 kg. In contrast, it was only 16 kg in 2018. Ephedrine seizure also went up from 8 kg in 2018 to 25 kg in 2019. However, this is much lesser than the 2017 numbers when the officials had seized 103 kg of the drug.
The quantity of seizure of methamphetamine has also gone up from 1 kg in 2018 to 6.2 kg in the year 2019. Similarly, NCB seized 4.3 kg hashish oil and 4.2 kg of hashish in 2019. The last seizure in 2019 was 68,900 tramadol tablets on December 28 in Chennai.
However, the seizure of ganja has come down from 2,345 kg in 2018 to 1698 kg in 2019. Similarly, cocaine seizure has also come down from 11.4 kg in 2018 to 0.022 kg in 2019. Seizure of alprazolam came down to 20 tablets in 2019 from 3.65 lakh tablets in 2018.
