For accident-free New Year celebrations, cops to install illuminated barricades
To ensure that the New Year celebrations near Marina beach remain accident-free, the Anna Square police have decided to illuminate all the barricades placed on Kamarajar Salai with LED blinkers for better visibility and to deter motorists from over speeding. Officials told DT Next that it would be made a permanent feature from this New Year.
“The barricades kept at crucial junctions in our jurisdiction will have these illuminated barricades in the night hours. We have plans to make it permanent from January 1,” said inspector Venkat. He said the blinkers would be powered by batteries that would be charged during the day at the police stations. With drag racing on Kamrajar Salai having become very common, the illuminated barricades are expected to act as a deterrent to youngsters speeding on the road.
