    Over speeding car with drunk realtor kills 59-year-old man

    A speeding car, reportedly driven by a drunk realtor, fatally knocked down a retired army man working as a security guard at the Valluvar Kottam Metro Water pumping station, on Friday morning.

    The deceased man, Mannar Samy (59), a native of Vellore, was walking to a tea shop nearby at around 5.30 am when he was hit by the car driven by P Kiranraj of Arumbakkam.


    According to the police, the car with Kiranraj and four of his friends were speeding on Kodambakkam High Road from Gemini flyover. The vehicle rammed against a tree on the side of the road and then hit Mannar Samy. He was thrown away in the impact, and died on the spot.


    Immediately after the incident, onlookers gathered around the car after which the occupants of the vehicle stepped out and started quarrelling with people. The situation worsened when one of the passengers pulled out an iron rod from car and threw it at the people gathered.


    After calling the ambulance in the hope of saving the life of the injured man, the local people called the police and handed over the car passengers to them. A team from Pondy Bazaar traffic wing arrested Kiranraj.


    Two more persons were killed in two other road accidents in the city.


    In a road mishap that occurred near Ambattur OT, a 23-year-old youth, who was travelling on a bike, was fatally knocked down by a van on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Sibu, son of a sub-inspector attached to Anna Nagar police station. According to the police, the van driver lost control of the vehicle and hit Sibu’s bike, killing the youth on the spot. The driver was arrested.


    In another fatal incident in Korattur, a 23-year-old youth identified as Sabari was killed in a hit-and-run case on Friday morning when he stepped out of his house. The police said Sabari, a painter hailing from Dharmapuri, was staying at a relative’s house in TNHB complex in Korattur.
