Chennai
The accident happened when he was on his way to work on his two-wheeler. When he tried to cross the road at Sembarambakkam, a bus proceeding towards Chennai from Bengaluru rammed his two-wheeler and ran over Parthiban, killing him on the spot. Shocked residents of the locality gathered at the spot and staged a road blockade on the highway.
Agitators claimed that the failure of a traffic signal at the spot often leads to accidents and loss of lives. On information, Poonamallee Assistant Commissioner Sembedu Babu held talks with the protestors after which the public dispersed. The incident resulted in a traffic jam on the highway for an hour. Parthiban’s body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, a 37-year-old woman died in a accident near Chengalpattu on Monday. The deceased was identified as Padmakani from Paranur village near Guduvanchery. On Monday evening, around 5 pm, Padmakani and her husband were travelling on a two-wheeler and when nearing Chengalpattu tollgate, a private bus rammed their bike. Padma fell on the road and was ran over by the bus while her husband escaped with minor injuries.
